Live & Work in the Outback of Guatemala Install Solar Power at Cipresales School, Chicaman, El Quiche. Stay at the school 4 nights - bring your sleeping bag, tent optional.- Visit Mayan Ruins at Iximche- See Antigua, GuatemalaImagine joining the Peace Corps for just one week. Learn about solar power and work hand-in-hand with families in a rural Mayan village. This will be the experience of a lifetime. This ATC Solar Volunteer project is in Cipresales, Guatemala, an extremely isolated and impoverished community about 3 hours of unpaved roads from the nearest town & medical facility. This service trip is for the most adventurous of people who want to understand & experience rural poverty first hand. Expect simple Guatemalan faire shared by community members, rustic restroom facilities, and 4 nights of sleeping on the floor of a classroom. This rustic trip will bring you into the life of a rural community, working alongside community leaders, playing with children, cooking tortillas and exploring the countryside. The impact of the project is felt. This volunteer trip is a solar power installation at a community center / school in a remote Mayan Village. Previous ATC Volunteers say our volunteer projects are “life changing” and “the best vacation we ever had”. (Note: We promise real work, but most people call it fun!) While most tourists never experience Guatemala up close, you will work hand-in-hand with local talent and gain insight into an indigenous Latin American culture. Most local ATC staff speak the Mayan languages Kachiquel, Tzutujíl and K’iche'.Your personal rewards from the ATC volunteer experience are incalculable. The Maya way of life remains in tact here in the Guatemalan highlands, weaving and wearing traditional textiles and making tortillas from corn raised on their fields. See people planting maize and harvesting coffee on steep hillsides. Take a historic walking tour of Antigua Guatemala, a World Heritage site and former capital of Latin America and end your trip with a tour of the ancient Mayan city, Iximche. If you are game for meaningful work, daily hikes in the mountains and making new friends, an ATC Volunteer trip is for you. Some ATC volunteers have even repeated the trip - there is always something new to learn! Contact us soon at:
