event details

WILDERNESS FIRST AID & CPR/AED TRAINING – 5/29-31 Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Training& CPR/AED CertificationMay 29-31, 2020 This class is designed to give you solid first aid skills in a wilderness setting. This course teaches first aid skills for situations in which emergency care is delayed for long periods or self evacuation is necessary. It includes injury prevention, proper advanced preparation, more advanced first aid techniques, and short-distance transfer and evacuation techniques. Participants need to be at least 16 years old and must have a basic knowledge of First Aid and a valid CPR/AED certification to begin the WFA training as this course teaches techniques necessary in more extreme situations. CPR/AED training is offered as a Friday night ‘add-on’ option for those not currently certified. Wilderness First Aid certification is a required course for at least one adult leader on any BSA high adventure trip. The Illowa Council recommends that two adult leaders be trained as Philmont treks now require two. When: May 29-31, 2020 (CPR/AED add-on is Friday) Where: Loud Thunder Scout Reservation, 9906 175th St, Illinois City, IL Time: CPR/AED add-on course starts on Friday at 6:00pm. WFA Course starts at 8:00am on Saturday and should end by noon on Sunday. What to Bring: Annual Health and Medical Record - Parts A & B required Participants will be tent camping. Please bring your own tent, sleeping bag, toiletries and camping materials appropriate for the weather. Meals and some classwork will be held indoors at the Dining Hall. Other coursework will be held outdoors. Please bring a notebook, pen or pencil and wear Scout appropriate clothing. Registration: Course is limited to the first 24 participants. DEADLINE to register is Friday, May 22. Instructor's Note Because social distancing approaches cannot be provided for either student or instructors, due to the nature of the skills training required, this course date is tentative and may change prior to the course. We are planning on having the course as soon as allowed if beyond this date. Contact: Gary Pearsall at icgp@prodigy.net or Bryan Reynolds at bryren@gmail.com with course questions.
